Welcome to the new main blog of Green Life Innovators. The old blogs inside the wiki will be discontinued and our main blog will be this one instead from today on. The reasons are quite simple and straight forward. It’s due to the fact that WordPress, the platform on which this blog runs, is a much more powerful tool than the built in blog in Tikiwiki, when it comes to built in features to reach out to a bigger audience.
When we decided to use Tikiwiki as the main platform for our community web site, we did so because it contained a little bit of everything associated with social media. It was not only a wiki, but also had forums, image gallery, faqs, blogs and more. In that sense, Tikiwiki is a multi purpose tool, a little like a Swiss army knife, that is a knife, a screw driver and a bottle opener, and more in one piece. But it also has some of the limitations of a Swiss army knife. Because, whoever once owned a Swiss army knife knows that it is neither an excellent knife, nor an excellent screw driver, nor an excellent bottle opener.
Tikiwiki has some of the same limitations, in the sense that it does not match the state of the art specialized tools in each area it covers when it comes to features. This is especially true for the blog part. It falls notably short of WordPress here, not only in terms of looks, but more importantly in terms of the under the hood features that makes a state of the art blogging platform one of the most effective tools to reach out to a large audience on the net. For that reason, we have not yet used a blog extensively to promote GLI, but that is about to change.
So, we have decided to establish the blog as a separate web page, this page. The blog is open to comments from all readers. You don’t need to register to submit a comment to the blog.
For those of you who visit Green Life Innovators for the first time, here is a summary of what we do.
Green Life Innovators (GLI for short) is a global online community for the design of environmentally sustainable technology through the principles of community driven collective action, using the way communities like the open source movement, Wikipedia etc. work as our role model. GLI is built on the philosophy that the knowledge of clean, green and sustainable technology should be freely available to the whole of humanity.
The organization is rooted in Norway and is registered at the Norwegian Central Coordination Register for Legal Entities, under the organization number 993 163 872 as a non profit, non governmental organization.
It is also the goal of GLI to raise funds to actually build some of the things designed and share the practical knowledge acquired from the building process with humanity for free. We also intend to test out the building of some of the designs in developing countries using local building traditions, local building materials and local work force.
GLI is not a protest group, like so many other environmental organizations seem to be, but rather a community that seeks to gather people who would like to take part in constructive, creative and collective action for a better and more sustainable future through green technology. Our goal is first and foremost to inspire and thrill, to be a group that would like to teach others through our example, rather than being a group telling others what they should not do.
